"In the end we will conserve only what we love.  We love only what we understand.
We will understand only what we are taught."
Baba Dioum, 1968

My research interests lie in natural history, taxonomy, biogeography and conservation. I link these fields together through biodiversity informatics: creating, integrating, analysing and disseminating information relating to biodiversity. My main topics of expertise and current areas of research are taxonomy of seahorses (genus Hippocampus) and their relatives, marine biogeography (especially South East Asia), the application of biogeography to marine conservation planning, and the interrelationships of biodiversity databases and their role in conservation planning.

Keywords: biodiversity informatics, taxonomy, morphology, genetics, biogeography, phylogeography, conservation
