Maria
de Boef
My current project stems from my interest in the
study of bone histology in the field of vertebrate palaeontology. I noticed
that while bone histology had been well documented in extinct species
very little had been done in extant species. Thus I began to study how
physiological changes caused by seasonal variation, behaviours such as
hibernation and migration and stress caused by disease and reproduction
are reflected in the bone histology of extant species. From this research
it is hoped that we will be able to more fully understand what similar
histological patterns may mean in extinct species.
